The typical European Windmills were developed by the 13th century and it was farther developed in the 18th century. By the end of 19th century, there were more than 30,000 windmills working in Europe mainly for milling of grain and pumping of water. rnrnFirst effort to generate electricity using wind power, by building a suitable machine for this purpose, was made by Charles F. Brush in Cleveland, Ohio in 1888.The interest in this direction was revived with the oil crisis of 1970s and research and development in this direction gained full force in Europe and North America thereafter. The development work was carried out mainly in Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom along with Canada and the United States. :)
